Day 1 - Cathedral to Monks Cowl
45 km and 3000m+ vert
This adventure starts at the Cathedral Peak Hotel car park. We travel up onto the high Drakensberg via the Camel and Organ Pipes pass.
This a spectacular route and a powerful training session. The views are astounding and we spend around 12 km above 3100 m. The descent down Greys Pass isn’t as loose as some of the berg passes but it will certainly hammer your quads. Try to save something in your legs for the final 12 km’s from Keiths Bush to the finish at Monks Cowl which is on hard packed smooth trail.
This route is extreme and only advised if you are extremely fit and have some experience in high mountains. You must have a GPS capable of taking the entire route and you must be able to use it to navigate a route.
Day 2 - Sterkhorn FKT
16 km , 1500 m Vert+
This is classic Drakensberg Fastest Known Time(FKT) route starts and ends at the Monks Cowl Mountain Register. It ascends 1500 m the Sterkhorn Peak which tops out at 2973 m above sea level.
This is a great test of leg strength off the back of the previous days big mountain run.
