Drakensberg Grand Traverse – 7 missions in 7 months

200 km of high Drakensberg with a total ascent of roughly 8500 m. Most of the route is above 3000 m with very little formal trail

missions. Each mission will include an up and a down portion. Each mission will link up so that the entire DGT route is covered. Each mission will be completed in one single 24 hour period starting early on Saturday morning. Comfortable accommodation on both Friday and Saturday nights. We will not be sleeping on the mountain and we will have hot showers , warm food and warm beds each night. These are fast packing point to point missions. You carry only the essential gear with you. Your ‘comfy’ kit will be transported from the start to the Saturday overnight stop by us.

At least 3 trail running guides per trip allows us to split the group into 3 a ‘Fast’, ‘Medium’ and ‘Easy’ paced group.

Vehicles will be left at a safe place and you will be transported from there to the start and returned to them at the end of the mission on Sunday.

Athletes who are not Mindful Runners must submit a running CV detailing there fitness levels

Limited to 15 persons per mission

A DGT Logbook with a separate entry for each mission which will be stamped on completion of that mission. We will be running the missions for years to come and you don’t have to complete them all in one year. Unique finishers memento for everybody who completes all 7.

Sentinel Car Park to Mweni

The route starts at the Sentinel Car Park. We ascend to the top of the escarpment via the famous chain ladders. From there it’s on to Mont Aux Sources peak(3282 m) to bag the first of the DGT milestone Check Points.   We follow the valleys using the escarpment as a rough guideline all the way to Rockeries Pass roughly 36 km later. We descend Rockeries Pass  and will be met by a Mindful Runner at the start of the dirt road to be driven to Mweni Cultural Centre for our overnight stay.

Sunday is a leisurely 8 km out and back to a stunning swimming hole or a lazy morning in.
