Fred Richardson

My passion for the trail goes back to an early childhood spent in the African bush. I attended the prestigious Infantry School in Oudtshoorn during my national service where I attained the rank of lieutenant  and qualified as a fitness instructor among other things.

Adventure racing was a perfect fit for me and I have extensive personal experience as an adventure racer and an adventure race organiser.

In more recent year I have been involved in helping many new runners and adventure racers, preparing them for various goals from a 5 km road race to a 24 hour adventure race.

I have worked with climbers and hikers in preparing them for the ascent of Kili and other adventures

Running is my true passion with a strong emphasis on ultra trail and I have run many of the iconic ultra trail runs in South Africa such as Wartrail, Skyrun, Ultra Trail Cape Town, Hogsback 100 and the Brauhaus Mountain run among others. I also enjoy road running and have completed South Africa’s most iconic Ultra road running events,  Two Oceans Ultra and the most famous of them all – the Comrades Marathon.

My favorite place to run is in the remote areas of the Drakensberg
