Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge
Starting at the Sentinel Car Park ascending the chain ladders. We summit Mont-Aux Sources before descending into the Kubedu Valley. After crossing the river we move up a tributary to cross Fangs Ridge at a little over 3100 m. Down into Fangs Valley and along another river until we ascend the next ridge and skirt around Pins Buttress back at 3100 m. The trail follows the high ground for the next 3 km before dropping down and crossing the Senqu river, which later becomes the mighty Orange river in South Africa. Following along a Senqu tributary brings us back to the escarpment edge and the final descent via Mlambonja Pass brings us out to our overnight stay at the luxurious Cathedral Peak Hotel.
This is a tough route with an FKT of 10:16 minutes set in September 2018. A lot of the route is runnable if you have the lungs to deal with the altitude. Definitely one for the mountain goats.
